Copa del Rey Competition Overview
The Copa del Rey is Spain's premier knockout cup competition featuring clubs from all tiers of Spanish football. From regional teams to Barcelona and Real Madrid, all compete in single-elimination matches (with some two-legged rounds) until one team claims the trophy. There are no traditional standings—just progression through knockout rounds.
As a knockout competition, the Copa del Rey doesn't feature league-style standings. Instead, track team progression through preliminary rounds, round of 32 (where La Liga clubs enter), round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals (two-legged), and the single-match final. Cup form and tactical rotation often matter more than league position.
